The Purchasing Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Purchasing Department, including supporting and development of departmental policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent the company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers
  • Direct and coordinate activities of interdepartmental personnel engaged in buying, selling and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
  • Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales
  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
  • Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain records of goods ordered and received in company’s computer software
  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, product or substitute materials.
  • Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future materials availability
  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers
  • Control purchasing department budgets
  • Review, evaluate and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
  • Administer online purchasing system
  • Prepare reports regarding market conditions and materials/goods costs
  • Arrange for disposal of surplus materials
  • Formulate policies and procedures for bid proposals and procurement of goods and services
  • Attend production/meetings, trade shows, conferences, conventions, and seminars to network with people in other purchasing departments for best practices
  • Ensure and satisfy company goals & objectives, departmental compliance; represent the department in internal/external audits
  • Interview and hire staff and oversee staff training; assist in staff performance reviews and or performance improvement discussions

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 6+ years’ purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
