The Materials Manager is responsible for managing inventory and purchasing of materials and supplies for the Automotive division.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and supervise production planning and purchasing staff
- Work closely with production managers and other departments on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments
- Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet production schedules and customer timelines
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of the perpetual inventory system
- Establish procedures and supervise physical inventory
- Support New Product Introduction programs
- Define inventory entitlement models, inventory planning methods and drive the execution to achieve objective.
- Establish and maintain metrics to measure supplier performance, quality, delivery and price
- Regularly review freight costs and carriers to determine lowest cost for shipment and receipt of goods
- Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for materials, supplies and equipment
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, product or substitute materials.
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future materials availability
- Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers
- Control department budgets
- Review, evaluate and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
- Prepare reports regarding market conditions and materials/goods costs
- Arrange for disposal of surplus materials
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for bid proposals and procurement of goods and services
- Ensure and satisfy company goals and objectives, departmental compliance
- Represent the department in internal/external audits
- Manage and train staff to enhance their planning and negotiating skills with the objective of continuous improvement in product cost, quality and delivery, and in developing effective long term supplier relationships and capabilities
- Conduct performance reviews and performance improvement discussions
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or other related field or equivalent experience
- 8+ years’ experience in materials management, purchasing, production planning, and budgeting in a Tier 1 automotive and/or injection molding JIT manufacturing environment
- 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory role in transferring materials between multiple facilities and managing 500+ SKUs
- Must be familiar with Kanban, ASN/EDI, supply chain and inventory management systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
- Must be a team player with excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook tools and ERP systems

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is a guideline and compensation will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skill level, experience, education and training, and work location.
- California: $100,000 – $145,000
